"Live Flesh": A masterful deep dive
Ruth Rendall's classic is anything but formulaic, which is just what Emma Jameson likes about it.
Tired of the same old crime fiction books? Me, I love the "same old" crime fiction books. Most of the time. I adore the genre and do everything I can to add to that bookshelf. It exists because it's awesome. But. Once in awhile, I like to be stretched and challenged. NO crime writer has ever challenged me more than Ruth Rendell. Live Flesh is a book about a rapist and attempted cop killer who is released on parole and decides to finish the job with that cop, whom he blames for everything that went wrong in his life. What happens may surprise you. It will certainly keep you guessing, because it is not a formula book. It's an exploration into characters so deep, you may feel as if you really knew them. Psychologically, Live Flesh is a masterful deep dive. If you're the daring type, give it a look. It’s haunting, tragic, and anything but predictable.
